What To Know Before Buying An Electric Car | Mission, TX
Are you thinking about purchasing your first electric vehicle? We have plenty of these eco-friendly vehicles (fully electric and hybrid) available at Bert Ogden Mission Auto Outlet here in Mission, Texas, including the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Toyota Prius, and Volvo XC90. Before buying your first 100 percent EV, though, consider the following questions:
Should I Buy New Or Used?
We highly recommend buying a used EV. Why? When buying new, electric vehicles are typically more expensive than their gas-powered counterparts, but when you buy used, the opposite is true. Because electric vehicles come with great tax incentives when bought new that aren’t offered when bought used, the seller makes up for that lack of incentive with a lower price. In short, EVs depreciate faster than gas-powered vehicles, meaning you can typically get a used EV even cheaper than a used gas-powered car of the same model year and class.
Am I Prepared To Charge It?
You can charge your EV at home using a standard 110-volt outlet, but these only charge vehicles at a rate of 4 miles of range an hour. Instead, you should have an electrician install a 240-volt outlet in your garage, which can charge an EV at a rate of about 25 miles of range an hour. With the latter, you can easily get your EV to a full charge overnight.
You should also consider what public charging options are available. Use this government resource to determine if there are charging stations near you. If you’re here in Mission or the surround McAllen, Edinburg, or Mercedes areas, you’re in luck, as we have lots of charge posts all over town.
What About Range?
If you have range anxiety with an EV, consider how you’ll use it. EVs are great for running errands around town, but you’ll need a gas-powered vehicle for long road trips. If you don’t want a second car for road trips, be prepared to rent one each time you travel.
